Life in Rhodesia was better than Zimbabwe

By Faith Moyo

Over the past 32 years human rights situation in Zimbabwe have been blatantly violated by a black government that masquerades as a champion of peace and democracy, thus the Mugabe regime has eroded all norms of 21st century civilization.

In contrast, Ian Smith’s Rhodesian era turns out to be better than "our" black government.

Most black Zimbabweans would now prefer Ian Smith as leader to Robert Mugabe – though the human instinct of freedom remains high on the agenda. The Mugabe regime has perpetrated serious crimes against its own people – black-on-black.

For what’s the purpose of freedom when freedom kills you, when freedom denies you free speech, when freedom kills your relatives, when freedom starves you, when freedom excludes you on tribal grounds?

I always hear some of my fellow Shona friends saying the crisis in Zimbabwe started in the 1990s when Mr Mugabe started expropriating white farmland including denying Morgan Tsvangirai presidency. No for us in Matabeleland the crisis began right in 1980 when Mr Mugabe became Prime Minister of the newly independent Zimbabwe. Up to 20 000 people were massacred by the North Korean-trained Fifth Brigade in the early 1980s.

Two human rights organisations, the Legal Resources Foundation and the Catholic Commission for Justice and Peace (CCJP) Zimbabwe however, produced a report entitled Breaking the Silence, Building True Peace in 1997, detailing human rights abuses during the Gukurahundi era. Yet, you still find some people saying “Mugabe was fine up until the 1990s”. This explains how Mr Mugabe has successfully divided our beloved country.

The hope is now based on amplified calls for Gukurahundi justice, thus compensation and reparations. A Bulawayo-based pressure group, Ibhetshu LikaZulu has warned that they intend to launch a High Court bid to force Mr Mugabe to release two reports containing findings of official inquiries into the Matabeleland disturbances in the 1980s.

Ibhetshu LikaZulu has already engaged human rights lawyers, Abammeli BamaLungelo Abantu Network, to force Mugabe to release the Dumbutshena Commission and Chihambakwe Committee reports, which have never been made public although they were presented to him.

The group argues that publicising the documents was necessary to achieve national healing and reconciliation.

Botswana has a small population, so any wealth created there is shared by a smaller group of people. They're also not having babies and spreading AIDS the way that most Africans are choosing to do in other countries. Botswana is also known as "Debswana" to those of us who know that the country is actually run by the DeBeers corporation rather than any nominally elected government there.

Soon the Chinese will be the only investors in Africa and the only work will be in Chinese mines and on large and efficient Chinese farms (subsistence farming is not a good way to provide for food security). Of course they will also need garrisons to protect their investments. Good luck Africa.

It seems that not only was rhodesia much better it was far better for all and quite frankly i dont know what you are doing on this site, as this is a zone where political rufugees can expose the evils of the degenerating country zimbabwe .

faith is entiltled to her opinion embarassingly daft as it is. but you cant wish for such a terrible thing upon human race. i was born in the 80z but still i have felt the impact of colonialism. i have seen apertheid in south africa it was ugly.
may i point out that this is the problem ye older generation. colonialism has left you thinking the white man is superior. we do not think likewise.we are hungry and desperate to see our own succeed.God created us equal and equal we are. ndiri kuita PHD and i swear i will use it to uplift my country under the black rule.mentality yedu yekutarisirana pasi isnot only showing its ugly head in the government but in our society. pasi nemafungiro amai ava. it leaves loophole for the enermy to attack.

One thing I have noticed from most old and new politicians coming from Matabeleland , somehow they just think Mugabe is a Shona, so all his supporters are are Shona and they all agree with everything he does.Let me say this to this bigoted sister, Gukurahundi ,not only Ndebele suffered but some Shonas were killed for being Shona as well. What Mugabe and so called Dissidents did was not good, they all have to be prosecuted for their works. For your lack of information, all provinces were suffering ,they didn't have it all as you think, but all provinces had upper schools so as your region.
You just mentioned yourself as a politician ,but I think you need a lot of research and understanding the field you are to enter. If you see national politics in the eyes of the region you are bound to fail.Gukurahundi was never a Shona thing ,some of the Shonas lost their lives because they were labeled ,same as the Ndebeles all this was wrong and ugh has to be properly investigated.

I would never wish back the Colonialism, people like F.Moyo are the ones who give Mugabe weapons to go in rural areas saying rubbish by their way of expressing situation.I am totally disappointed by the way Mugabe is governing , I see him as a failure, and hope that amongst ourselves can be a leader , who can do better things.Its. shame really to read the entire Nation as a failure because of a small group of people who had find a way to manipulate the whole system to personal gains.By far we have better leadership ,our dreams of Zimbabwe are no were near, and we only know that the current leadership is a disappointments to the wishes of people and we fight for betterment of people and we will never go back to colonial era as Mugabe and his gang are doing.Ndebele and Shona were victims in Gukurahundi, tribal politicians will never build but destroy .it was not a tribal war , but a failing of a government, must account to its own duties!!!

Its a pity some people enjoyed KUDZVINYIRIRWA. We are happy in Zimbabwe and I know even those other political parties are happy to be in Zimbabwe enjoying family life. And if you want to live happily in any country, stay away from politics and stay in Christ. Vana vanonamata Mwari following His Ten Commandments are staying pretty. We know in times of mourning, joy, sickness and death God is with us. But if you want to be used in any country you live uncomfortable. Unogara uchitiza mumbvuri wako. Whoever goes to the Lord for safety, whoever remains under the protection of the Almighty, can say to Him, "you are my God, in you I trust". He will keep you safe from all hidden dangers. But if you want to be a politician, you must know that Politics is a dirty game.

This sounds sad and sister you need help to understand the events in your own country. i do not support any parties but sure am happy we are no longer a colony, sadly events went down hill. Its no picnic but throw away tribalism and cheap politics and be of use to your country.
Little dogs bark but real ones just bite.revise your history and stop bashing whats there now, bring constructive critism with your comments e.g how we can get up.
Zimbabwe is like a warrior licking his own wounds after a battle, but without surgery they will still take his life!!!!

Mugabe hates black people far more than he does whites. He kicked out 4000 white farmers but displaced 750 000 black farm workers. Thousands of white Zimbabweans had to leave to live outside their home country, but, millions of black Zimbabweans had to do the same. Rhodesia was prosperous, with good food security, so I can see Faith’s point of view. But only whites could vote, so Rhodesian politics were flawed. Equally it is unfair to say all African countries are filled with staving, uneducated blacks. Botswana is black-run, successful, has a good education system, and, no nationals are fleeing her borders. Why hasn’t Mugabe and his cabinet crossed the border and met with Botswana’s government? Why hasn’t Mugabe said to Botswana’s leaders ‘What do you do every day?’ and then gone home and done that? It’s a successful formula – ask any Botswana national.
African leaders should be queuing at Botswana’s doors asking for an audience. Then we will truly see the African Renaissance.

you sadly seem to be the biggest racist,Takanga tisina simba the reason for non votes in rhodesia was not based on race but education and you have seen what happens to small countries that have no experience in politics they have no hope, but rhodesia had implimenedt education for a which was aposed by tribal elders, sadly this wonder was never alowed to reach maturity thanks to brain washed idiots like mugabe

SHAME ON YOU FAITH!

This article has now been published in over a dozen white supremecist websites. Racists are using your arguments to prove black genetic inferiority -- all thanks to you.

If you want to criticize Mugabe, do it constructively, not play into the hands of racists. If you want to defect from the black race go head, but know you will be welcomed into the caucasian race as a slave.

...and what about PURE WHITE RUN STATES THAT ARE NOW FAILING? GREECE, PORTUGAL, IRELAND, ARGENTINA....infact the entire euro block is destined for collapse within the next decade.

Oh, and FYI, here is a list of succesfull BLACK RUN STATES - NAMIBIA, TRINIDAD, BARBADOS, ANTIGUA, CAPE VERDE......and more will join if we start loving ourselves.
