The England-based Zimbabwean national team captain Benjani Mwaruwari has donated 10 soccer balls to his township team Magwegwe Young Stars, in Bulawayo.

Born and bred in Bulawayo, Zimbabwe’s second largest city, Mwaruwari grew up in the streets of Magwegwe township, a predominantly old black suburb..

Magwegwe Young Stars coach, Sifiso Ndlovu, said they were touched by Mwaruwari’s way of giving back to the community.

“We are happy that Benjani has boosted the club and the balls will help us during practice. We want to thank him for what he did and we hope more people will help build our community,” he said.

Magwegwe Young Stars are doing well in the junior league. In matches played on Saturday against MK Lions at Emalorini, Magwegwe Young Stars won in both Under-14 and Under-16 games. They beat MK Lions Under-14 1-0 and in the Under-16 match they beat them 2-0.

However, the Under-18 faced their first defeat this season. They had won all the nine matches they played this season and on Saturday they lost 1-3 to MK Lions. Magwegwe Young Stars are dominating in the junior league.
