Chawora-gate Part 5: No asylum support letters without sex first

E-mail Print PDF

makuvisePolitical reporter
Today The Zim Diaspora publishes shocking evidence of how Hebson Makuvise then Morgan Tsvangirai’s special representative to the United Kingdom exchanged MDC asylum support letters for sexual favours. Makuvise is said to be Tsvangirai’s direct uncle and is now Zimbabwe’s ambassador to German.

We can also reveal that Jonathan Chawora the suspended MDC-UK chairman paid Makuvise a total of £5 100.00 despite resistance from his fellow members of the provincial executive. It is now claimed that the payout was part of Chawora’s effort to access Tsvangirai for a cabinet position. It later turned out that Chawora paid using public money for nothing as Makuvise never connected him with Tsvangirai.

Below we publish the report compiled by a high-powered MDC-T delegation led by parliamentarian Sam Sipepa Nkomo despatched by the National Executive to investigate problems in the province and the alleged missing £75 000.00 party money.

The report which has since been handed over to Prime Minister Tsvangirai was passed on to The Zim Diaspora by a reliable source working at the MDC headquarters, Harvest house in Harare.

 The report is unedited.

Continued from yesterday

...against the background that some members of the executive were charging exorbitant fees for support letters to asylum seekers, the commission asked if the province could also explain the expenditure item of asylum letters of £5100.00 appearing on the financial statement.

 Observations

  •  H Makuvise was paid £5 100.00 for asylum letters (see financial statement by Goneso) which was not authorised by the provincial executive.
  • Sakhile Mthombeni explained that when he was involved in writing support letters, the justified cost per month was £165.00 for ink, stamp and paper and stated that as the bases of this argument
  • It came out that provincial members were engaged in charging exorbitant fees to asylum seekers in the name of the party.
  • Chris Dzikiti pointed out Jason Matewu (both are in the suspended provincial executive) as having charged £250 to asylum seekers he knows personally in collaboration with a lawyer called Muzenda in London (see affidavit signed by xxxxxxxxxxxxx)
  • It was reported that many other provincial executive members were doing the same but it was difficult to prove evidence for fear of victimisation and that it would affect the asylum seeker when they needed representation
  • It is alleged that H Makuvise was also charging cash and sexual favours to women who needed representation (one woman testified before the commission but pleaded to remain anonymous)

The commission observed that the provincial executive was really not united and they wanted to know why?

The following reasons were given by members of the provincial executive:

  • None  accountability and transparency in the provincial executive
  • Inability by chairman to accept criticism (if you have a differing opinion then you are labelled as against The President of the party.
  • The chairman and treasurer could not justify to the executive members the reason for paying H Makuvise £5 100.00 and other remittances to individuals
  • Lack of understanding of basic party principles by J Chawora
  • Some members were not comfortable with the fact that the chairman J Chawora is a former Police officer
  • Lack of team work which hindered effective communication
  • Interference through the media in the functioning of members of the executive in the form of articles written by Elliot Pfebve, E Tapa, Peter Nyoni, (Stanford Biti – had an interview on you tube criticising the President).

Recommendations

1. Dissolve the suspended province and conduct  an election

2. Vote for leaders who have an understanding of the party principles

3. There should be induction or some form of training g when one is elected into office

4. National leadership should increase their visibility in  the province to boost membership confidence

5. Vote for people with knowledge to run the office affairs

6.Activate portfolio committee meetings and participate and update membership about developments at home

7. Communication with harvest House should be established and maintained

8. The Finance and Administration should be respected and followed

9.The UK & Ireland province need equal treatment as all other 12 provinces

10 The provincial executive should in future work together and differentiate collective and individual responsibility and accountability

To be continued tomorrow...

This is the joke of the year. Honestly are you expecting the executive to be fired on such frivolous issues.
