HURUNGWE - A 13-year-old girl in Mashonaland West has been murdered by allegedly her cousins after she absconded from school to spend time with a boyfriend.
Emilia Muruko, a Form 1 pupil at Magororo Secondary School, was last week beaten to death by her two cousin brothers for reportedly skipping classes to spend time picnicking with her boyfriend in the nearby bushes.
Police say they are now looking for the deceased's two cousins Itai Takarambwa (34) and Kuziwakwashe Jongwe (26).
The suspects, who had apparently followed the two lovebirds, reportedly grabbed the girl and dragged her to their compound, where they took turns to whip her with a double-coded electric cable.
They reportedly assaulted her for more than two hours until she passed out. She was taken to Chinhoyi Provincial Hospital, but was pronounced dead on arrival.
The hunt is now on for the suspects who are now on the run.
"We are keen to interview two men in connection with the murder,” said Mashonaland West Police Spokesperson, Inspector Danford Magora, who appealed to members of the public to assist in the hunt.
“Anyone with information on the whereabouts of the two should contact police immediately."
The two are now believed to have skipped the border to Zambia.
