John Nkomo the ZANU-PF national chairman is to fill the vacant vice-presidency post following the death Joseph Msika in August this year.
This came to light at a Bulawayo ZANU-PF meeting yesterday when Sikhanyiso Ndlovu, one of the few former ZAPU members who arrogantly remains within ZANU-PF said it was clear that the vacant position was supposed to be filled by a Zapu cadre.
However, ZAPU has denied any connection with John Nkomo saying such a move was misleading and deceiving the nation.
Ndlovu said the party procedures were clear and there was no need for jostling for the vice-presidency as John Nkomo was th remaining senior cadre in line with the Unity accord which in the eyes of many is now defunct.
“We have resolved that John Nkomo takes over the vice-presidency. It was decided that we get a person who had a national outlook as Zapu was not a party for the people of Matabeleland only,” Ndlovu said.
This has angered ZAPU supporters in Matabeleland after Sikhanyiso Ndlovu said John Nkomo's name was being endorsed in ine with the Unity Agreement between ZAPU and ZANU-PF.
ZAPU has since pulled out of the agreement which many said was only a compromise agreement to stop the 5 Brigade massacres in Matabeleland.
South African president Jacob Zuma has also endorsed the pull out by officially recognising the revived former revolutionary party.
Critics say the mention of Nkomo being presented to the nation as vice-president via a non-existent agreement was an insult to people of Matabeleland regarding the fact that when Mugabe persecuted ZAPU leaders in early 1980s, John Nkomo crossed the floorinto ZANU-PF way before any agreements.
ZAPU has warned that anyone who remains in ZANU-PF did so in their own accord, not as ZAPU as the party has official pulled out of the Unity Agreement.
However both the ZANU-PF Central Committee and Politburo members in the province took the decision at yesterday’s provincial co-ordinating committee meeting at Davies Hall that John Nkomo should be the next vice-president.
Sikhanyiso Ndlovu, Absolom Sikhosana, Angeline Masuku and Joshua Malinga attended the meeting.
Ndlovu said as a result of the proposed elevation of the national chairman, this would result in the post becoming vacant and it was the considered view of the committee that the post be filled by a Zapu cadre.
“The leadership in Matabeleland will consult other provinces on a suitable candidate to fill the post that would have been created by the departure to assume a higher office by Nkomo,” Ndlovu said.
He said Nkomo was the closest person in terms of ranking after the late Msika and as such it was natural that he takes over.
The committee also deliberated on the re-admission into the party of Tsholotsho North Member of the House of Assembly, Professor Jonathan Moyo.
Ndlovu said the province of Matabeleland North was supportive of the decision taken by the Politburo to re-admit Prof Moyo.

It is the kind of Zimbabweans who are ready to effect the first stages of real change that we are desperate to congregate. Doubters can be dangerous and harmfull.
At this moment Zapu needs the very commited Boys and Girls who believe in facts and are ready to effect permanent change everyone can believe in. Zapu wants constructive ideas not doubters. Being in the UK and a Zapu member this year makes you a potential tool to contribute your intelligence in making Zimbabwe a safe and prosperous home to go back to. If you believe in yourself and you believe you were born for a good purpose, doubt not. Join Zapu now and be part of change.

ZANU PF's leaders’ haves while entrusted by Zimbabweans mismanaged and looted the country. ZANU PF leaders leaders are proven corrupt and out of touch with reality and the people.
ZANU PF must be reminded that appointment of leaders must be done on merit. Ones former allegiance must not be a ticket into public office.

Thats our short-coming as Zimbabweans. We tend to concentrate on criticising small fish and letting the big fish grow bigger! Right now, its as if ZAPU is being "revived" to tackle MDC. All their rhetoric is aimed at MDC as if the Zim problems were created by it! They are leaving Zanu Pf go scot-free and do as it wishes! Please guys stop confusing the electorate! We dont want these small house parties going on! You cannot win by camapaigning in Botswana etc. Fight the battles right in the battle field not in the side-line and comforts of other people's countries. Remember you are not a guerrilla outfit anymore and noone will give you that mandate.
We, who are in the thick of things have seen gains made by MDC and we are 100% behind it. Lokhu okwe Zapu, hayi its too little too late Mahlabezulu! IZAPU yaPUZA!

When one makes a mistake that is not the end there is still room for correction. When one faills still that is not the end there is still room to try again. A bigger and better ZAPU will finally prevail on this land.
